Growth Strategy

Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club is entering a new phase of development aimed at strengthening its role as a leading sports development institution in Uganda and beyond. The Strategic Transformation Agenda for the period 2026–2031 focuses on reorganizing the club’s structures, restructuring its operations, and rebranding its identity to meet the demands of a modern, digitalizing sports environment.

This transformation will position Mbale Tigers as a progressive sports organization capable of delivering impactful sporting and community development programs while aligning with national and global sports development frameworks.

The strategy is designed to ensure that the club becomes fully compatible with Uganda’s Vision 2040 Development Plan, international sporting structures, and global development initiatives including those of the Olympic Movement and the United Nations.

To become an excellent all-round sporting and non-sporting club that develops talented athletes, responsible citizens, and community leaders through sports.

Reorganization, Restructuring and Rebranding in a Digitalizing Era (2026–2031).

This theme reflects the club’s commitment to modernizing its management systems, strengthening its programs, and building a recognizable sports brand capable of competing at national, regional, and international levels.

To inspire, influence and innovate sporting initiatives within communities, educational institutions, and corporate organizations through sports development programs.

The club seeks to use sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, leadership development, education, and social transformation.

The medium-term goal of Mbale Tigers is to establish International Table Tennis and Football Academies that will serve as centres of excellence for sports training, talent identification, and athlete development.

These academies will nurture young athletes, support professional coaching, and prepare players to represent Uganda in regional and international competitions.

The Mbale Tigers transformation strategy is aligned with major national and international development frameworks, including:

  • Uganda Vision 2040 Development Plan
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)
  • International Olympic Committee (IOC)
  • United Nations Development Frameworks
  • Other international sporting bodies that promote sports development

By aligning with these frameworks, Mbale Tigers aims to strengthen its programs, attract partnerships, and contribute to sports development at both national and global levels.

The period between 2026 and 2031 represents an important opportunity for Mbale Tigers to grow into a more structured, modern, and influential sports institution. Through strategic leadership, partnerships, and innovation, the club will continue to inspire young athletes and contribute to the development of sports in Uganda and across Africa.

Mbale Tigers remains committed to its long-standing mission of developing youth through sports while building a strong foundation for the next generation of athletes and community leaders.

About Us

Historical background

Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club (MTTTC) was originally founded in 1992 and formally established in 2003 as a social and sports club dedicated to nurturing young, disciplined, and competitive table tennis players. Our mission is to develop well-rounded athletes who excel not only in table tennis but also as leaders and contributors to society. Ultimately, we aim to build a premier Table Tennis Academy that will drive the growth of the table tennis industry in Uganda.

In partnership with Twiga and under the Laupa Luning Table Tennis Project, MTTTC has focused on using sports as a tool to cultivate leadership qualities and positive social behaviors among children in our community. Our initiatives have created numerous social benefits, including access to education, healthcare, housing, and the promotion of values such as cooperation, friendship, and civic responsibility. These efforts are formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding between the project promoters, our founder, and the local government of Mbale District in Uganda.

Our approach combines professional training, consistent practice, and competitive play, while actively contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Through table tennis, we empower young athletes to develop leadership skills, combat poverty and hunger, promote universal education, protect the environment, uphold human rights, and fight against HIV/AIDS.

Since 2005, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), through the NGO Twiga, has generously supported MTTTC. Their contributions have enabled us to identify and train talented players and provide them with opportunities to compete at local, national, regional, and international levels. Today, children aged 6–18 dominate Uganda’s Cadet, Under-17, and Women’s national teams, with many progressing into senior men’s categories. Educational seminars and mentorship programs have transformed the social behavior, values, and attitudes of children—particularly those from Maluku slum, near our project office.

Beyond sports, MTTTC has implemented income-generating initiatives, including bicycle taxis, an internet café, and a local table tennis table workshop, with the goal of becoming a self-sustaining club. Cultural exchange programs, sponsored by SIDA and Twiga, have allowed our youth and leaders to travel to Sweden, train in elite clubs like Angby and Mariedal Sports Clubs, and participate in competitions, conferences, and experiential learning.

Our work has received international recognition. UN Habitat awarded MTTTC a Certificate of Merit for youth involvement, and the model has been recommended for replication across East Africa. The leadership of the Government of Uganda, the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), and the wider Ugandan table tennis community recognize MTTTC as a leading sports organization—one that exemplifies how table tennis can drive career development, job creation, income generation, and social transformation across Africa.

At Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club, we don’t just train athletes—we shape leaders, build communities, and inspire a future where table tennis is more than a sport; it’s a pathway to opportunity and positive change.
